About the Conference
UPEC’s origins date back to a 1966 meeting of the academic power systems research community in Newcastle, UK. This meeting laid the foundation for the official launch of the UPEC series in 1967, with its first event held at the University of Glasgow, where the inaugural conference proceedings were also published. Initially established as a university-based conference, UPEC has continued to be hosted by universities both in the UK and internationally. In 1994, UPEC expanded beyond the UK for the first time, when the conference was held in Galway, Ireland. Since then UPEC has been increasing its international presence. It continues to provide a forum for engineers, academics, and industry professionals to exchange ideas and discuss the latest trends in power engineering.

The UPEC tradition continues in 2025 at Brunel University London. The conference provides a nurturing environment to early career researchers. Through networking and interaction with experienced researhcers, UPEC has been helping attendees progress in their careers.
